Soldiers banned

WELLINGTON: Fijian players who belong to the country’s army were banned from taking part in this year’s Rugby World Cup, New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully confirmed yesterday. New Zealand maintains a travel ban on members of the Fijian military after a coup that ousted the elected government in December 2006. Fiji are reportedly keen to include four to six soldiers in their squad. The World Cup takes place in New Zealand from September 9 to October 23. – Sapa-dpa
