Mother finds child abducted two years ago

- Karabo Ngoepe

TWO agonising years of searching for her four-yearold daughter who was snatched from the backyard of a house in Pretoria North came to a happy end when Thabisa Dongolwane spotted her child walking with a woman on a dusty Soshanguve street at the weekend.

“I immediately knew it was her and I screamed for help,” said Dongolwane.

On March 25, 2010, her child went to visit her aunt at an informal settlement near Pretoria North.

The child had been playing behind the house when she went missing.

On Sunday, when she was in Soshanguve’s Extension 3, Dongolwane saw her child walking with a woman.

Dongolwane and some members of the community approached the woman who said the girl was her child.

When they went to a police station, Dongolwane told police about her child’s birth mark to prove that the girl was her child.

While there, the woman confessed to the abduction.

Police said she had miscarried in 2008, but allegedly told her boyfriend that she had given birth and left the baby with her grandmother.

In 2010, the woman’s husband kept asking when she would bring the child home.

It was then that she allegedly planned to abduct a child.

She was arrested on Sunday and appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of kidnapping, but her case was postponed to September 26 for bail application and she was remanded in custody.
