New computer lab a boon for Inanda
PUBLIC Service and Administration minister Lindiwe Sisulu opened a new multimedia computer laboratory at the Uthando Primary School in the Inanda township north of Durban last week, on the sidelines of the State Information Technology Agency’s (Sita) 7th annual GovTech Conference.
The laboratory equipment – donated by computer giants Hewlett & Packard, technical support provider Pinnacle Africa and Isiqina Computer Services – is worth more than R120 000. It will serve as a computer lab and technology hub for the more than 1 000 pupils at the school and the community as well.
Sisulu welcomed the investment by HP and other Information Communication Technology (ICT) companies in partnering with the government in such projects to bridge the digital divide.
She said the computer lab was not just a donation of equipment, but ICT professionals would contribute their time to run computer training programmes for the community.
