Breeders Cup to up his game

HE six-point boost in merit ratings for the majority of horses racing in the three major centres has been controversial to say the least and one has to question the logic behind the move considering the reasons given by the National Horseracing Authority for the action.

Leading racing personality Jehan Malherbe put the matter into perspective in a very good article in the Sporting Post this week and it does raise considerable questions about the depth of thinking in the consideration and preparation of the action.

The whole handicapping system in the country and its application has become controversial and this move only adds fuel to the fire particularly with horses moving between centres and with some horses being exempt from the increase. Interesting times.

The Dennis Drier-Sean Cormack combination contests the race with the Australian-bred gelding

The Flying Machine and coming off a good run in a pinnacle stakes race at Scottsville over 1 400m last time out, the gelding is another with a strong winning chance.

He has placed over the mile in the past and should handle Sunday’s race well.
