HE six-point boost in merit ratings for the majority of horses racing in the three major centres has been controversial to say the least and one has to question the logic behind the move considering the reasons given by the National Horseracing Authority for the action.
Leading racing personality Jehan Malherbe put the matter into perspective in a very good article in the Sporting Post this week and it does raise considerable questions about the depth of thinking in the consideration and preparation of the action.
The whole handicapping system in the country and its application has become controversial and this move only adds fuel to the fire particularly with horses moving between centres and with some horses being exempt from the increase. Interesting times.
TThe young rider might have allowed him to run a bit too freely in that race and now knowing the gelding better and with the experience, he may do things a little differently when he partners him again on Sunday and get him into the frame again.
