SENZO Meyiwa’s home life was a saga that often hit the headlines.

Last year, he admitted to cheating on his wife, Mandisa Mkhize, with singer Kelly Khumalo, and also that he didn’t tell Khumalo he was married.

Last October, Khumalo and her sister, Zandi, were arrested for allegedly assaulting Mkhize in August.

This arose from a physical altercation between Khumalo and Mkhize on a freeway offramp in Joburg.

The Khumalo sisters had handed themselves over to the police and were facing assault charges. Kelly faced additional charges of reckless or negligent driving and malicious damage to property. The charges were later dropped.

At the time, police said Khumalo stopped her car and assaulted Mandisa without provocation. Neither Meyiwa nor his wife were present during previous court proceedings.

In March, Khumalo gave birth to Meyiwa’s child.

She also has a child with rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, now in jail following a street-racing crash that killed and injured a group of Soweto teenagers.

Khumalo wrote about their stormy relationship in her biography The Kelly Khumalo Story, revealing Maarohanye’s abuse of her and her own drug binges.

Yesterday, neighbours described Meyiwa as a respectful person.

Margaret Mqina said Meyiwa was always at the Khumalo home, especially at weekends. “He normally visited and stayed for the entire day with them. He was a loving person, who showed respect to everyone in the street. He always told people not to treat him as a celebrity, but like any other person,” she said.

Mqina said Khumalo and Meyiwa had still been madly in love.
