A place in the final
DAVE Pons has scooped the 2014 Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Entrepreneur of the Year Award with his invention, Ceilingin-a-Can.
The runner-up is Mlungisi Alpheus Ngwane: M2Man Surveys. Third is Njabulo Mkhosana: Njabulo Mkhosana Enterprise, and Hlengiwe Londiwe Zondo: Allegro Trading is fourth.
Pons was announced the winner on Friday night at a gala function at Chamber Square in Umgeni Road, Durban.
The competition, which was initiated by the iLembe Business Chamber, is conducted in all five chambers in the province with the finalist in each region competing in the final leg.
The chambers include the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, KZN Youth Chamber of Commerce, Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the KZN Youth Chamber of Commerce.
The provincial competition is funded by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and the private sector.
Nedbank sponsored the Durban Chamber’s competition in which businesses entering must be registered in South Africa and operating within the eThekwini municipal boundary for at least a year. They must make a turnover of less than R1 million a year.
