EGYPT beat South Africa 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the match finished 2-2 after regular time in the third place play-off at the Greenfields FIH World League Round 2 hockey tournament in Cape Town yesterday. South Africa, who had a goal disallowed in each half, led 2-1 until two minutes from time, when Amr Ibrahim equalised in a hotly disputed penalty corner. NICE: Australian Richie Porte claimed his second Paris-Nice title yesterday thanks to a commanding ride in the final stage, an uphill individual time to the Col d’Eze. The Team Sky rider, who won the week-long Race to the Sun in 2013, rode the 9.6km at an average gradient of 4.7% in 20 minutes, 23 seconds to reclaim the yellow jersey from Tony Gallopin as the Frenchman ended up sixth overall. – Reuters

GLASGOW: Celtic won the Scottish League Cup for the 15th time by beating 10-man Dundee United 2-0 in the final at Hampden Park yesterday. Kenyans shine in LA
SANTA MONICA: Kenyans Daniel Limo and Ogla Kimaiyo won the Los Angeles Marathon yesterday. Limo fell behind compatriot Edwin Koech after about 32km, but caught him soon after the 35km mark and won going away in 2hrs 10mins 35sec. Lani Rutto of Kenya also caught Koech and finished second for the second straight year, this time in 2:12:41. Koech was fourth. Kimaiyo won in 2:34:10. TOMMYOosthuizen produced his best performance in almost three years to outpoint Rayno Liebenberg for the IBO lightheavyweight title at Emperors Palace on Saturday night.
