Want to be in a boy band?
WHY stick to One Direction when you can have All Directions? That’s the question asked by Umhlanga’s Barnyard Theatre, which plans auditions on Saturday for young, attractive male vocalists for a special boy band tribute show aimed at a younger audience.
The production, to be titled All Directions, will focus on songs made popular by boy bands and young pop stars.
“We are looking for five male vocalists between the ages of 16 and 25, with some theatre experience, and who are able to perform the hits of One Direction and other young pop stars,” says Barnyard Theatre spokesman Kim Davidson.
All Directions, which played in Johannesburg to great success and needs to be recast for Durban, will be staged on Saturday afternoons in August and the first week of October.
“It is aimed at children, and will be performed with a professional band. The successful vocalists will also take to the stage with three professional vocalists and two dancers.”
Rigorous vocal and choreographic training will be provided, and the show will be professionally costumed.
The first round of auditions is scheduled for 2pm on Saturday, at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway.
“Those wishing to audition need to ensure they are suitably dressed, and bring a current photograph, along with a biography of any experience, and with contact details clearly marked.
“Should any musical accompaniment be required, this needs to be brought along in the form of a CD.”

Meanwhile, sticking with The Barnyard, note that popular band The Parlotones perform at the Umhlanga venue on May 28 and 29.
The group are launching their new CD, Antiques & Artefacts, with a national tour of the Barnyard theatres.
The new album comes two years after the release of the Parlotones’ last album, Stand Like Giants,
The collection marks the band’s first release on their own.
During their career, The Parlotones have released seven studio albums, performed to an audience of a billion at the 2010 World Cup kick-off concert and shared stages with Coldplay when the British band toured here.
Tickets for the Barnyard show cost R200. Phone the theatre at 031 566 3045 to book.
