Groban’s Stages coming to Durban

US RECORDING star Josh Groban will perform at Durban’s Internatio­nal Convention Centre on Sunday, April 10, next year, as part of a world tour promoting his latest album, Stages, a tribute to hits from top musicals.

Tickets range in price from R450 to R905 for the Durban concert, for which booking opens at Computicke­t at 9am on Thursday.

Groban starts his South African tour on April 8 with a performanc­e at Johannesbu­rg’s Ticketpro Dome, for which tickets range from R565 to R1 130.

Then, after his Durban date, Groban will perform at Cape Town’s GrandWest Arena on April 12. Tickets cost R565 to R1 190.

The tour, billed as A Very Special Evening with Josh Groban, is presented by Big Concerts, East Coast Radio, KFM and Kyknet.

Groban, from Los Angeles, first performed in South Africa in 2004, then in 2011. He has sold more than 25 million albums, his hits including You Raise Me Up, To Where You Are and a version of Bright Blue’s Weeping, featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Since his self-titled debut album in 2001, he has released five multi-platinum albums and has been nominated for more than a dozen awards, including an American Music Award, a World Music Award, a Juno Award, two Grammy Awards as well as an Academy Award. He has also performed with Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, and has sold more than 750 000 albums in South Africa.

The performanc­e will feature songs from Les Misérables, Carousel, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, The Fantastick­s, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera and The Wizard of Oz, among others.
