Celebrities’ social media feud burns on, subsides – for now
CONTROVERSIAL DJ Zinhle had until yesterday to apologise to media personality Bonang Matheba for the “insults” she threw at her last week, but did not climb down, instead adding fuel to the fire.
Last Thursday, DJ Zinhle Jiyane named Metro FM and Top Billing presenter Matheba as the “other woman” who she said had destroyed her relationship with the father of her young daughter, Kairo.
Zinhle accused Bonang of having a serious affair with AKA (real name Kiernan Forbes).
The post on her website was followed by a flood of comments on social media, with fans lashing out at Matheba and others defending her.
On Twitter yesterday, DJ Zinhle released what she termed #MyPlayListForTheDay which was believed to be a sarcastic swipe at Matheba after a letter of demand from Matheba that Zinhle apologise.
DJ Zinhle took to Twitter and compiled a list of four songs with the word “sorry” in the titles.
Her fans also added tweets with more songs which contained the word “sorry”.
On Friday, Matheba’s legal team delivered in person a “letter of demand” to DJ Zinhle’s home.
The letter said: “Our client has thus instructed us to demand from you, as we hereby do, that you give an undertaking, by no later than the close of business on Monday, September 14, 2015, that you shall refrain from publishing defamatory statements about her.
“And that you shall refrain from publishing any statements that may cause harm to her emotional well-being.
“Withdraw the statement you made about our client on or about September 10, 2015, issue a public apology, wherein you apologise to our client for the defamatory statements you made against her” as also quoted by Sunday World.
Commenting about the letter of demand, DJ Zinhle said her management and PR team had met her legal team, which advised her that “no further correspondence shall be entered into regarding this case unless examined and approved by the lawyer presiding over this matter”.
Matheba had said if DJ Zinhle did not respond as demanded, she would sue for damages as she took DJ Zinhle’s statements as defamation of character.
While the pair duke it out, AKA is now out of the picture. Last week he disputed DJ Zinhle’s claim that he was once involved in a relationship with Matheba.
Since then he has not said anything further.
