Meshing karaoke, quizzes and dance

- Billy Suter

A FUN new half-hour local game show that will test the knowledge of music fans is headed for e.tv, the first episode scheduled for 6pm on Wednesday, November 4.

To be presented at 6pm every weekday, the series, MVP Jam, will be hosted by TV and radio personality Dineo Ranaka, and DJ Mulo, who played DJ Sax on e.tv’s Rhythm City and produced Craz-e for the same channel.

“The show is a unique jam session of karaoke, pop quiz and dance. It is built around the ultimate pop quiz where two teams of friends go head to head to compete for the ultimate MVP Jam experience,” said Monde Twala, the managing director of e.tv’s channels division.

“MVP (Music Video Play) Jam contestants need to have an in-depth knowledge on all music matters to win the quiz games.”

The teams will also be required to compete in song and dance challenges in front of a studio audience.

“We decided to find formats that zoom into the lifestyles of young South Africans,” said Twala.

“This high-energy show brings the pre-weekend party to the viewer’s home. Everyone gets to be a VIP in their personal space.

“The show format directly speaks to the inquisitive mind of our youth through the quiz games, style, music and dance.”

Teams will compete in five games and need to demonstrate vast music knowledge, singing and dancing abilities. Two of the five segments will be judged by an audience member.
