Sports fans get their fill at one-stop expo

ON A sporting roll after being selected as host city for the 2022 Commonweal­th Games, Durban is set to continue its success when the ultimate one-stop-shop for all things sport kicks off on Friday at Greyville Convention Centre and Racecourse.

“Whether you are into health, fitness, sports,the outdoors, or just keen to have an exciting family day out, Sportex Durban is the place to be,” said show organiser Gavin Larkin, from the Expo Factory.

“We are excited about the show and dedicated to its ongoing success,” he said of the event, which runs from Friday until Sunday.

Sportex Durban will offer inside and outdoor spaces packed with interactiv­e displays, competitio­ns, games, sports star appearance­s, training and education.

There will also be a beer garden and food stands to help top-up energy levels.

If you are starting out in the running scene or looking to mix-up your cardio routine enter the The Triple G – Greyville-Get Fit Gamez.

This corporate team or individual fitness challenge will take place on Saturday with teams and contestant­s following a demanding obstacle course weaving through the Greyville property.

The Segway soccer and obstacle challenge will provide a unique skills test. Martial art experts will also be on hand to amaze with their skill and precision.

For the younger crowd, Kids’ Land means loads of fun for the under-12s.

Budding cricket stars will be given the opportunit­y to bowl and bat with the Dolphins, while rugby fans are in for a tryline treat with daily coaching clinics by The Sharks Academy.

Meanwhile, a display of motorboats, yachts and other watersport­s machines is sure to whet the appetite of all water waders.

Top of the adrenaline leaderboar­d is stunt bag jumping at the Adventure Zone and extreme action displays by KwaZulu-Natal’s top drifters. Watch these artful drift drivers control their cars as they slide sideways around turns at full throttle. Clutch-kicking and gear-shifting are trending talents with this newgenerat­ion motor sport.

High-energy team sports – including soccer, netball and volleyball – complete the Sportex line up.

Finish the day on a high as you tee-off in a bid to win big at the Golf Challenge. Score a hole-in-one and get the chance to drive off in a car valued at R 250 000.

The show runs from Friday to Sunday at Greyville Racecourse. Gates open at 9am.
