Tantalising Durban taste buds

- Goodlife Reporter

ASEASON of four innovative Durban events billed as The Easy Eating Taste Experience, said to cover things “culinary, sensory and educational”, is scheduled from October 30 to November 20, culminating in a food conference on December 5.

All events will be at 8Morrison Street in the newly rejuvenated Rivertown Precinct between the Durban International Convention Centre and the beach.

The project of culinary mover and shaker Zama Memela, the fun starts on October 30 with Durban’s David Bartlett, from Eat Your Home, sharing with guests his passion for quality, locally grown fresh produce and products.

Guests will enjoy a dinner created by chef Brett Gentles of Parc Café.

The next event, scheduled for November 6, will see master tea blender and coffee roaster Zamindlela Mkhwanazi examining methods of creating the perfect cup of tea.

Visitors will learn about becoming master tea blenders at this event, where guests will be given the opportunity to create their own tea blends from scratch.

A meal will be served and all food and beverages on the night will be inspired by tea or coffee.

Another Durban resident, Nazira Moosa, will entertain and educate guests on November 13 with her independently produced cooking show, Zira Cooks.

Moosa was once a member of the corporate world, but her passion for cooking and fun entertaining has taken over.

She will show guests how to create a dish in her live show, and will be cooking enough for all to enjoy.

On November 20, Pietermaritzburg’s Mo Gravity, Easy Eating and Visual Foc will be showing their collaborative craft beer brand inspired by the pit bull.

Guests will discover how the partnership came about, what the future holds for the brand, and perhaps even one or two trade secrets.

Over the course of the evening, the beer crafters will cook a three-course dinner using their craft beer. To wrap it all up on December 5, a 10-course lunch, showing the culinary expertise of the guest speakers from the four previous events, will be held. Business owners will discuss how they plan to create synergy in business as well as food.

“Think of good food and wine pairings, and imagine the same concept on a business level,” said a spokesman.

“This is the event that will bring the whole experience together, so don’t miss out.”
