Those funny, familiar faces return

- Billy Suter

TWO new productions featuring hugely popular Indian stage characters are headed for the kraal-shaped iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino, near Umhlanga, next week, the first up being a comedy by Vikash Mathura and Ray Maharaj.

Following their recordbreaking, sold-out tours in 2013 and last year, Mathura and Maharaj, famous for their amusing Uncle Bala and Uncle Peru stage and radio characters, are back in those guises in a comedy titled Harry & The Uncles.

Two performances have been scheduled – at 7.30pm next Wednesday and Thursday.

“Fans are in for another load of laughs as they discover what has happened since Harry’s ‘mama’ was imprisoned for selling fake vegetables, and what South Africa’s favourite comedy uncles have been up to since retiring from hosting their popular radio show for 17 years,” says a casino spokesman.

Tickets cost R160 each at Computicket and the Sibaya box office. For any further information visit www.suninternational.com.

Also headed for the iZulu Theatre are characters from the touring stage hit Keeping Up with the Koopasamys, as well as new ones, played by the versatile Eubulus Tracy, Sans Moonsamy and Durban theatre and TV personality Jailoshini Naidoo.

They portray the funny, loopy Koopasamy sisters, who are back with new antics and new characters that include the girls’ nosey mother, Krys Koopasamy; their pervy neighbour Sameer; and his mother, Aseeya.

The show will be seen at 8pm next Friday, 3pm and 8pm next Saturday, and 3pm next Sunday. Tickets from R120.
