SsangYong offers a little more style
SSANGYONG has facelifted and freshened-up its Korando range in South Africa, at the same time streamlining the model offering to a single petrol-engined 4x2 derivative.
The Korean-built SUV, which is locally distributed by Indian company Mahindra, has a comprehensive list of standard features including new headlights with LED daytime running lights. Also as part of its cosmetic update, the Korando acquires a reshaped grille and the alloy wheels move up a size, from 16” to 17”.
A front scuff plate, sill extenders and the rear apron are all finished in contrasting black to emphasise the Korando’s SUV personality, although this twowheel-drive vehicle won’t stray too far beyond the urban jungle.
Compared to the previous model, the standard equipment list has been extended to add further value and capability.
Niceties include electric windows with a one-touch open function, an integrated, six-speaker sound system in the centre stack, and cruise control.
The MP3-compatible audio system features MP3 playback capability, Bluetooth hands-free telephony, and a USB socket compatible with flash drives and Apple iPhone or iPod devices.
The multifunction steering wheel features switchgear to conveniently control the audio system and Bluetooth functionality for safe operation on the move.
The rear bench seat is split 60:40.
The updated Korando’s drivetrain remains unchanged, with a 110kW/197Nm 2-litre engine powering the front wheels through a six-speed manual. SsangYong claims a combined town/freeway consumption figure of 7.5 litres per 100km.
Safety in the Korando is taken care of by dual front airbags and ABS anti-lock brakes.
The latest-generation Korando’s R324 995 retail price includes a five-year/150 000km warranty with AA roadside support, and a five-year/100 000km service plan.
