BILL Murray – playing himself – worries that no one will show up for his TV show because of a terrible snowstorm in New York City, in a new festive season movie musical, A Very Murray Christmas, which has been scheduled for global release early next month.

The film is directed by Sofia Coppola, who directed Murray in her 2003 success, Lost in Translation, for which Murray earned an Oscar nomination. The film also features George Clooney, Rashida Jones, Miley Cyrus and Chris Rock. – Goodlife Reporter

DURBAN can prepare for a merry season of festive fun with popular comedian Aaron McIlroy and friends in a behind-the-scenes look at what is really happening up at the North Pole.

MacBob Productions is presenting Funny Father Christmas, a fun-filled new festive season show for youngsters of all ages .

It will be presented at Grace Family Church in Umhlanga at 3pm and 6.30pm on December 10 and 11, and again at 10am and 3pm on December 12.

Although known as a large and jolly man who brings cheer to millions of children, Father Christmas is having a mid-life crisis this year.

He is thinner, grumpier and far from ready for the Yuletide rush. In fact, the situation is so grim that his wife, Mary Christmas, will have to step in to do his job.

Along with a team of young elves, she will have to ensure every child receives a present, and that the spirit of Christmas lives on.

Funny Father Christmas promises to be cracker of a show that celebrates the season with comedy, song and dance.

The show is written by McIlroy and Patrick Kenny, with musical direction by Shelley McLean, choreography by Leigh Meyer, and lighting by Michael Broderick.

Musical highlights include Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas, the popular First Time In Forever from the movie Frozen and the Meaghan Trainor hit song Dear Future Husband.

Also included is the Rolf Harris comedy classic The Court of King Caractacus, as well as festive season evergreens such as Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, We All Need a Little Christmas, Mrs Santa Claus and Jingle Bell Rock.

“What makes the magic is the music, and the fact that we are sharing the stage with about 20 elves – talented youngsters between the ages of 10 and 16,” says McIlroy, who plays Father Christmas.

‘This is a prime opportunity for them to experience some professional theatre, and for audiences to support the stars of tomorrow.

“There will be lots of song interaction and games in this show, which even has built-in appeal for the dads.”

Laced with madcap comedy, Funny Father Christmas features Haylea Hounsom as Mary Christmas and Patrick Kenny as the villain of the piece.

Tickets cost R125 at Webtickets or at the door.
