In Other Words to go all the way

- RICHARD MCMILLAN

THE scratching of the Dynasty filly Olma from the Itsarush.co.za Conditions Plate at Greyville today has virtually given the race to champion trainer Sean Tarry whose four-year-old Trippi filly In Other Words had looked the only serious opponent to the Frank Robinson stable inmate.

The race had looked like a straight fight that could develop into a close hard finish between the two that had met on the turf at Greyville at the beginning of January with In Other Words set to meet Olma on 4kg better terms today.

But that is not to be and as In Other Words now appears to have very little in the way of opposition she could be seen as a banker for the exotics.

That she loves the poly track at Greyville goes beyond saying as she is unbeaten in four starts on the surface and the only question that could be posed is whether she will handle the 1 600m trip.

Yes, she raced over the mile behind Olma on the turf after losing two lengths at the start and it appeared that she was in need of that outing it being her first race since November.

But that is a rather slim hope for the opposition for the manner in which she has won over 1 400m is more than sufficient evidence that she will get the trip comfortably.

This filly is very quick and with her best time over the course and distance being just 1,5 seconds outside the 1 400m course record when not being pressured, speaks a great deal.

The question should be which of the other five runners can follow In Other Words home and that is a subject for debate.

Lady Ming

Gut feeling suggests that the Dynasty filly Lady Ming could fill the role carrying a mere 50kg for trainer Duncan Howells from an inside draw.

She has no difficulty with the distance and although she is yet to race on the poly, she has seen the venue and could improve considerably on her grass run at Greyville.

Weiho Marwing runs the Admire Main filly Mamasita and she is very much at home on the surface having won her only start over the course and distance.

She has also won three of her six starts on the poly and should run a top race today.

Casha from the Dennis Drier yard could show a lot of improvement and while Queen’s Advance and Make My Own Luck have performed well on the surface, they do find themselves under sufferance with a major task ahead if they are to beat In Other Words.
