Pogba set for Man United as Juventus allow medical

- Sam Cunningham

LONDON: Paul Pogba’s world-record £100 million (about R1.7 billion) transfer to Manchester United is all but complete after Juventus confirmed they had given the midfielder permission to undergo a medical.

Sportsmail revealed on July 29 that the deal had been done to take Pogba back to Old Trafford, the midfilder having quit the club for the Italian giants in 2012.

The 23-year-old France international is expected to have a medical today.

New United manager Jose Mourinho hinted on Friday that the midfielder was the final piece in the puzzle of his rebuilt side.

It is expected that the transfer cost for the midfielder could reach more than £100 million when significant agents’ fees are factored in, eclipsing the world-record £85.3 million Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale in 2013.

Personal terms were agreed a week ago which will see Pogba earn around £290 000 per week.

Pogba left United in 2012 for free after he fell out with former manager Alex Ferguson, but will now make a return four years later, provided there are no lastminute hitches to proceedings.

Mourinho has already signed centre-back Eric Bailly from Villarreal for £30 million, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined on a free transfer and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved from Borussia Dortmund for £26 million.

Mourinho’s revamped United team will be gunning for the Premier League title after a lacklustre showing last season.

Reports in Italy yesterday claimed that Pogba was in Manchester for a “secret medical”, but the cat is out of the bag following Juventus’ announcement. – Daily Mail
