Hijacker caught in high-speed car chase

ONE of three suspects wanted in connection with a hijacking in Durban was expected to appear in court soon after he was arrested during a highspeed chase in Montclair, KwaZulu-Natal police said yesterday.

Police spokespers­on Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the man was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

Mbhele said the arrest happened on Monday when members of the uMlazi K9 unit at Montclair, Durban pursued the three suspects.

The officers managed to apprehend one suspect, 34, in bushes. He was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commission­er, Major-General Bheki Langa praised the police for their dedication that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the firearm.

“We will ensure that the two suspects who evaded the police arrest are caught soon to face consequenc­es for their action,” Langa said.
