Momberg has a new attorney
VICKI Momberg made another appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday, this time with a new attorney.
Momberg’s new attorney Jenna Clark pleaded for a postponement to give her time to consult with her client, whom she only met that morning.
When the magistrate granted the postponement to January 16, prosecutor Yusuf Baba seemed dissatisfied.
“Your worship, on behalf of the state, the defendant has delayed proceedings of this matter two times prior to this appearance,” said Baba.
Baba ordered a notice based on Act 51 of the 1977 section 342 which focuses on unreasonable delays and empowers the court to deal with conduct that falls into that category.
Ahead of Clark’s consultation with Momberg, Baba told the court he would present evidenceincluding dockets, audio recordings and video footage.
While Momberg has suggested she will try to make a plea deal with the State, Baba was displeased the paperwork had not yet been completed.
“Its not like the defendant has been charged for attempted murder, I do not see why my fellow colleague would need so much time for consultation,” he said.
Momberg has been charged with four counts of crimen injuria following a verbal racist attack on traffic officers who came to her assistance after she fell victim to a smash-and-grab incident.
After calling 10111, Momberg called the officer on the line a “f **** ng k **** r”. Without provocation, she called the second officer a “f **** ng bitch”.
Unaware she was being recorded, in a video that went viral, she went on to say that, “the k **** s here in Joburg are terrible and I am so sick of it, I really am”.
