LONDON: As US president-elect Donald Trump waits to make good on his promise to build a wall along the Mexican border, in Ireland his golf resort has dropped plans to erect a wall flanking the Atlantic Ocean.

A revised planning application by Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, reportedly omitted mention of the 3km sea wall, in a move Irish environmentalists called a “milestone” for their campaign.

Trump’s golf resort had applied earlier this year to build a rock wall to a height of 4.5 metres, but the new plan did not include the wall in its plan for coastal defences, national broadcaster RTE and other media reported yesterday.

Clare County Council confirmed that the plan to build the wall had been withdrawn. – dpa
