Cash case cause for concern not praise

-

WITH reference to the article, “Man caught with R12m cash at King Shaka” (The Mercury, December 7). Is this a job well done by the police or does it reflect that we have a serious security problem at the airport?

How and why was the suspect’s luggage in the first place allowed through the scanners when checking in was done and loaded on to the flight?

What if there were drugs or a bomb in the luggage? What is the purpose of scanning your bags at check-in any way?

If the scanner had picked up that there was currency loaded in those bags, alarm bells should ring straight away and the incident should have been addressed at point of check-in .

Does this mean if the police had not received a tip-off about this passenger, then nothing would have become of this? J KANIA Durban
