Doors open at Pearl Walk shopping mall
LOCATION, location location.
This – and its 800 parking bays – is what sets the Pearl Walk boutique shopping mall apart from others.
So says Videovision film mogul Anant Singh, the man behind the R3-billion Pearls of uMhlanga development.
“It’s the only place where you can take a walk on the beach, shop until you drop and explore the promenade – right before you enjoy your meal.
“It’s a unique one-stop experience,” said Singh. “The people of uMhlanga are in for a real treat with this mall. We have so many new and exciting shops, complete with stunning views of the ocean. It’s good for the people of Durban,” he told The Mercury.
“The parking bays will be well received, especially with the shortage of parking spaces in uMhlanga!”
So far, there are 57 shops, with more than 20 more expected.
“They will be opening from next year, February at the very latest.”
The mall will be home to popular restaurants such as Western Cape steakhouse Cattle Baron – a KwaZulu-Natal first – and Cafe la Plage – a supper club, complete with live music and great sea views.
“Most of the restaurants were packed last night (Tuesday), despite it being in the middle of the week. That’s a testament to its popularity already,” he said yesterday
There is also a Food Lover’s Market which will be the anchor eatery of the mall, and fashionistas can find everything they need at Just Japs, Turquoise and Levisons.
“What strikes me about the mall is that there is a mix of people, in terms of age and race. We expect to attract a lot more people.”
The mall forms part of the Pearls of uMhlanga project, an opulent resort-style, private residential development on the beach that has won architectural awards.
“The Pearls boasts a large saltwater pool and a baby pool as well, so you can soak up the sun poolside, unwind in your own exceedingly comfortable apartment, chill out on your balcony and get a braai going, absorb the fresh ocean air or take a stroll on the beach,” Singh said.
