Justice delayed
THIS year began with Penny Sparrow and was about to end with Vicki Momberg – two women who do not even know each other, but are joined only in their virulent antipathy towards black people.
Sparrow was caught out on social media making racist remarks, lost her job and was punished in court.
Momberg though, has managed to dodge ever having her day in court, this time by hiring a new lawyer, to defend her over her alleged outburst about traffic officers after being the victim of a smash and grab.
This week prosecutor Yusuf Baba appeared vexed by yet another delay over the drawing up of a plea bargain agreement that .................. 031 308 2332 .............................. Yogas Nair .. Philani Mazibuko ...... Kamini Padayachee ........ Greg Hutson Staats ............... 031 308 2004 will presumably see Momberg plead guilty for a less severe sentence. We don’t blame him. Indeed, it would be understandable were he to have the offer withdrawn and move to have Momberg in the dock for a full public trial.
Racism is a scourge in this country. Momberg is incredibly lucky to be even offered a plea bargain, she should take it gratefully and allow the rest of us to move on while sending out a clarion call to everyone else that the behaviour of which she is accused can never be tolerated in this country.
