Private health care an individual’s right

-

THE Mercury, February 6, refers. What an irresponsible quotation you have printed on the front page: “Abolish private medical aid”.

These are clearly quotations that appear ill-informed, naïve and immature.

The concept of a free competitive market and enterprise with entrepreneurship obviously cannot seem to co-exist for these commentators.

The suggestion to abolish private medical care and the diatribe that is included with it lack common sense and indicate narrow-minded thoughtlessness.

It is up to the individual if he should choose to fund private health care.

Freedom of choice is a constitutional right. Sadly the concept of a national health service is commendable but highly impractical.

The current health services are grossly mismanaged from the top downwards.

If the available services were managed in an accountable and responsible manner, run by people who were properly qualified and had a can-do approach with a motivational will to succeed, the services could be much improved for the benefit of all.

It is disturbing that the HPCSA president comments that medical aid is a crime against humanity.

It is a crime to suppress freedom of choice. PW FOSTER Musgrave
