Bourse flat ahead of Zuma’s address

STOCKS were barely changed yesterday, with investors cautious before the State on the Nation address on Thursday.
The benchmark JSE Top40 index ticked up 0.03 percent to 45 366.88 points. The all share index edged up 0.06 percent to 52 181.91 points.
Stocks remained under pressure before an address by President Jacob Zuma.
“A bit of concern about the State of the Nation on Thursday. A lot of participants are sitting on the sidelines waiting to see if there is any political news,” said Cratos Capital equity analyst, Greg Davies

declined 3.79 percent to R77.45, dropped 1.76 percent to R117.75 and lowered 1.55 percent to R10.80. Further losses were curbed by
which rose 4.77 percent to R37.31, and which gained 2.14 percent to R48.25, as gold shares benefited from safe-haven buying.
Meanwhile, European shares rose and US stocks hit record highs yesterday, helped by corporate results.
The Dow Jones industrial average and the Nasdaq composite index hit record levels yesterday afternoon, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 was close to hitting another record high. The Dow rose to 20 110.37 points.
