BACK from his overseas tour, blues rock guitarist Dan Patlansky is playing in South Africa to promote his latest album, Introvertigo.

Born in Johannesburg, Patlansky, 35, attended the National School of the Arts where he matriculated in 1999.

Fifteen is when I started playing guitar and really discovered my passion for blues and classic rock through the influence of my parents,” he said.

Both his last two albums, Dear Silence Thieves (2014) and Introvertigo, were voted the number one Blues Rock Album in the world by Blues Rock Review US making him the first artist ever to receive this accolade twice.

Introvertigo is his eighth studio album, produced by renowned South African producer Theo Crous.

Patlansky wrote the album over the course of two years and used his personal life experiences as inspiration, ultimately marrying good songs with his outstanding guitar playing.

“It’s a follow-up to the previous album, with a similar sound. However, this is more blues rock than traditional blues,” he said.

Patlansky was the special guest on Joe Satriani’s UK Shockwave Tour for 25 shows in 10 countries in November 2015. In total, Patlansky performed 26 shows in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.

“We’ve done a good few tours over the years,” he said. “It’s an honour to perform for international artists who are established in the industry. It’s also an amazing opportunity to build my fan base.”

Performing for a local audience is much different to overseas crowds, said Patlansky, “It’s great performing on home territory because I have a stronger fan base here. They know all the songs, so it’s always a pleasure performing for local audiences.”

Overseas ventures and new music are on the horizon for Patlansky. “This is my last tour before we go back into the studio to track the next album, due for release next year. Then I’m heading to the UK for a tour with British blues rock guitarist and singer Joanne Shaw Taylor in November.”

Patlansky’s KZN leg of his solo acoustic tour kicks off at 8pm at the Caversham Mill Restaurant in Howick on May 25 and 26. Entrance is R130.

On May 27, he will be at the The Royal Show, Pietermaritzburg.

On May 28 he is at Butler’s Restaurant in Hillcrest, where the tickets are R285 including a meal. Visit www.facebook.com/ danpatlanskymusic/ for tour dates, venues and prices.
