Tafta entertainer bows out

-

THE Association for the Aged (Tafta) yesterday announced the death of entertainment stalwart, one-time employee and long-time resident Elaine Jennings.

Jennings, 79, who pioneered the association’s theatre troupe, The Tafta Revellers, died after a brief spell in hospital last week.

She had worked at Tafta as a service centre organiser after moving from Johannesburg to Durban.

“Jennings touched the lives of thousands through her work,” the association said, “But her love for performing led her back to the stage.”

Under her leadership, The Tafta Revellers performed at venues throughout KwaZulu-Natal, including the Durban City Hall and the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

“Despite what she described as ageing ailments, Jennings was fuelled by her passion for music and dance, and committed her time and talents to conceptualising routines and rehearsing.” – Mercury Reporter
