Protesters block N2
TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill on Saturday night when protesters blocked the N2.
Residents believed to be from Mayville and Chesterville were protesting because there had been no electricity in the area since Friday.
Ward councillor Mndeni Mthembu said they believed the outage had been due to cable theft.
Protesters burned rubble and tyres, blocking the highway. There were reports of gunfire between protesters and metro police, and cars being stoned.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a case of public violence had been opened at Cato Manor police station. No arrests had yet been made.
