Ndlovu’s Team of Choice

- Minenhle Mkhize

MARITZBURG United midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, pic

tured, is not ready to rumble with the big guns in Gauteng.

Ndlovu is reported to be on the radar of Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The midfielder won the Midfielder of the Season and the Young Player of the Season prizes at the Premier Soccer League awards ceremony.

Speaking with the media at the 2018 SAB U21 National Championship launch at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban yesterday, Ndlovu made it clear that he still wants to stay for another season in Maritzburg.

“Personally I’m not 100% ready to leave Maritzburg United and go and play for another team. I think I should stay for another season. I still need to prove myself. No one has told be about any offers. It is just rumours,” Ndlovu explained as he put speculation around his future to bed.

The “Team of Choice” blew a lot of their opponents away with their verve and youthful approach last season and Ndlovu wants his side to go even better in the new season.

“We want to maintain the standard that we set last season. We set the bar high and we have to stay consistent. Individually, the hard work was key to my success. My teammates also assisted me. The coach also guided me very nicely,” he added.

Ndlovu is aware of the high expectations.

“I need to control my thinking and be calm. I know the expectations will be high. But I’m not the only one on the field of play. I do have my teammates. The only thing that I need to do is to control my emotions and thinking. It is not about me but about the team,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu, born and bred in Pietermaritzburg, is his family’s bread winner, which is the main drive for his accomplishments.

“My background is the main thing that is pushing me. I can’t drop my standard because I know where I come from. I’m coming from a very poor family whereby there was no one working. No one is working now except me. So I can’t disappoint my family. They’ve been very supportive in my career. When I first started they were not entirely happy but when they saw progress, they really supported me,” Ndlovu concluded.
