Inmate found hanged
AN INMATE was found dead at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
The body of Thabo Molepo, 27, was found hanging in the bathroom on Saturday at about 8am, Correctional Services spokesperson Mocheta Monama said.
Molepo was serving 11 years for housebreaking and theft. Monama said the incident was reported as a suicide but forensic investigators from SAPS were looking into cause of death. – Mercury Correspondent
Dam levels drop
NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality’s main supply dams yesterday dropped to 18.8% of combined capacity.
According to figures released by the metro, the Kouga and Churchill dams are at 7.17% and 15.97% of capacity, while the Impofu and Groendal dams are at 29.9% and 40.1% of their total capacity.
Residents in the city have been restricted to using 50 litres of water per person per day. – African News Agency (ANA)
‘Spiderman’ in court
SYDNEY: A man who robbed almost 50 homes, by scaling the outside of the buildings, appeared in an Australian court yesterday.
The 32-year-old man, who police dubbed “Spiderman”, has been charged with 49 counts of burglary and 16 counts of fraud after risking his life to access the high-rise homes.
When one victim startled the burglar during a break-in, he allegedly apologised before jumping over the 20-storey balcony and scaling to the ground. Wallets and credit cards were targeted. – IANS
Girl dies, dad blamed
ROMULUS: A 7-year-old girl was struck and killed, as she tried to get help after her father crashed into a vehicle, on an interstate in Detroit.
State police spokesman Lt Mike Shaw says the girl sent text messages to police about the crash before she was struck on the I-94, in Romulus on Sunday. Shaw said a driver called state police to say she might have hit a pedestrian. He said the father was drunk when he got into his car at about 3.30am and his daughter died due to his decision.
The father was taken into custody, pending charges. – AP
