A loss of lives could have been prevented

SEVEN people lost their lives in recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal. As much as we may applaud the efforts by the eThekwini Municipality in disaster management, it’s painfully a matter of “too little too late”.

About 2 000 workers were deployed to assist in disaster relief yet, ironically, if the people who are employed by the municipality to maintain the storm water drains, roads and verges did their jobs, how many more lives could have and would be saved?

We have the means but dismally fail at commitment.
