AMAZULU dug their own grave as they allowed Chippa United to collect maximum points in their own territory.

Usuthu were defeated by Chippa 1-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi this past weekend.

The results dragged Usuthu deep in to the relegation zone. Andile Mbenyane netted the winner for Chilli Boys as they closed the gap between themselves and AmaZulu on the log.

Usuthu are compelled to fight gallantly and diligently to consolidate their Premier Soccer League (PSL) status.

They are languishing 11th on the log with 26 points after 25 games. AmaZulu are two points clear of 13th, 14th and 15th placed Chippa United, Baroka FC and Free State Stars respectively.

The trio of Chippa, Baroka and Stars are level on 24 points. Usuthu coach, Cavin Johnson has challenged his troops fight it out in the last five matches.

“Today’s (Saturday) result takes you to a lot of avenues. It takes you to areas where you were not comfortable. We’ve never been comfortable. You never comfortable unless you are number one. If you are not number one, you never comfortable. We are no different to those below us and everybody else behind us. We are in a bad situation as far as I’m concerned. We need to come out of it. We have to go out and fight. We need to get points, “Johnson, mourned.

Usuthu will have to fight it out against the likes of Lamontville Golden Arrows, SuperSport United, Baroka FC, AmaZulu and Bloemfontein Celtic in their last five matches in order to survive the chop. Asked what will it

take for Usuthu to get out of their situation, Johnson replied:”It will take the players to put up their hands. It will take us to put a best tactical plan.”

Usuthu lost for the second time at home this season. Kaizer Chiefs were the first team to get the better of them at home.

“It is not good to lose at home because your own supporters go up against you. We have to realize that losing at home makes it a bit difficult. It a major mountain to climb now. We need to come out of the blocks. We’ve set the standard in the past especially at King Zwelithini and to maintain that standard you’ve got to come out everyday as an athlete and put your best foot forward. There’s no time for off games now.” Johnson concluded.
