Mashaba again fails to visit protest-hit Alex

MAYOR of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, was again a no-show in Alexandra near Johannesburg yesterday. Protesters have called on Mashaba to address them.

Protests have been going on for over a week, but Mashaba is still a no-show. They withstood the rain, shouting “No Mashaba, No vote’.

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the department was ready for the protests.

Community leaders threatened to march to neighbouring Sandton today if their grievances were not addressed.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has denied that the protests were “organised” by the ANC. He called on Mashaba to come to Alexandra. The DA has opened a case with police saying the ANC was behind the protests. |
