FOLLOWING nine days of the Bowls South Africa women’s nationals hosted by Port Natal Bowls the SA champions have been crowned.

The demanding tournament played by SA master’s singles champion, Glenda Matthews, must be mentioned. Entered in the fours, pairs and open singles sections, Matthews won through to the semifinals of each discipline and was required to play three or four games on each of the six days involving sectional play.

To achieve an eight badge when a full count of eight shots is accomplished in a single end is rare. To win a head by all eight bowls in the Nationals is noteworthy. The following bowlers are congratulated for attaining this.

In the fours section accolades go to Doreen Salmond, Marion Crouch, Tokkie De Kock and Amanda Ninow from Amanzimtoti Bowling Club; Jill Buzzard, Pam Wolstenholme, Maria Dreyer and Jenny Robinson from Northlands BC and Louise Larkin, Glenda Matthews, Leonie Koedyk and Natalie Botha from Stella Park Bowling Club.

In the pairs section only

Peta Basford and Thea Van Der Westhuizen from George Bowling Club in the Eden district achieved a perfect eight and the award of an eight badge.
