Maritzburg are one victory away from securing PSL status

MARITZBURG United are favourite to retain their Premier Soccer League (PSL) status after acquiring maximum points against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila yesterday at Thohoyandou Stadium in Venda.

The Team of Choice emerged 1-0 victors and are on six points after two games. Another maximum points against Royal Eagles next week at Chatsworth Stadium will see Maritzburg win the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs. This past weekend they swept past Eagles 1-0 in Pietermaritzburg.

Maritzburg missed an opportunity to open their account in the 24th minute through a great move instigated by Siphesihle Ndlovu and Mohau Mokate.

Tshakhuma knocked ball around looking to find Phumelele Bhengu and Edward Manqele up front.

Richard Ofori was lucky not to concede in the 30th minute when he was almost dispossessed by Manqele.

The Team of Choice made an early substitution when Siyanda Xulu was injured and replaced by Brian Onyango.

Ndlovu was the live wire for Maritzburg. The Team of Choice continued to play on the front foot but lacked urgency up front.

Maritzburg sacrificed Mokate for Judas Moseamedi, who

made an instant impact, netting for the visitors. He was well spotted by Deolin Mekoa from the left and rose highest to break the deadlock with his head.

The goal was expected. They stretched Tshakhuma and floated in lots of crosses. That plan worked wonders for Eric Tinkler and his troops when Moseamedi capitalised on Mekoa’s cross in the 67th minute.

Tshakhuma will entertain Eagles at the same venue on Saturday at 3pm. Eagles are on three points after two games while Tshakhuma are yet to get off the mark.
