CAVIN Johnson is safe for now as the coach of AmaZulu. Usuthu started the season with a 3-0 league defeat in their own backyard against Bidvest Wits last week at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.

After putting up a fight deserving of a point, AmaZulu then suffered a knockout punch in the dying minutes of their last game, a 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City.

Usuthu manager, Qedusizi Dlamini, confirmed that the coach’s position is not under threat.

“The coach’s position at the club is safe. We are not intending on firing him at any stage at the moment. Yes, we lost this past weekend but the performance was encouraging,” an optimistic Dlamini said.

It should be worrying for Usuthu that they failed to register a goal in the two defeats despite beefing up their attack with Lehlohonolo “Major” Majoro and Andre de Jong.

“There was big improvement despite the fact we lost maximum points. We were worthy of something in that game. The only problem is that we didn’t score. We are hopeful that we will be able to find the back of the net in the next few matches and then we can start to collect points, but there is no need to panic. It is just two games.”

The situation is likely to be more challenging in the matches ahead. AmaZulu next welcome early title favourites Orlando Pirates at King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday and then face Lamontville Golden Arrows in the Durban derby before travelling to Pretoria for a date with SuperSport United.

“There’s no mandate that we have given the coach. We are all in this together and we will all fight to get positive results in the next match against Pirates on Tuesday,” Dlamini elaborated.
