Pray for peace to avert annihilation

- | FAROUK ARAIE

THE entire world stands unfazed as India and Pakistan hurl insults and massively prepare for conflict, unaware that if they cross the threshold of deterrence neither side will survive the holocaust that will ensue.

Do these leaders realise that their bombastic threats to use nuclear weapons are not a crude joke? Nuclear weapons are not scientific marvels but instruments of violence with precisely drawn equations and charts and blueprints engineered for global destruction.

Bloodshed is enveloping the world, man has become intolerant and hellbent on domination at any cost. Total destruction has become the order of the day. Political and religious differences will lead to humanity’s demise. Wars and violence continue to dominate world affairs. All war does is to keep the never-ending cycle of hatred running. Warmongers would feel happy to have the vast devastated necropolis in front of them. Humanity will no longer be alive that day.

A war in Asia will involve the use of tactical nuclear weapons and strategic nuclear missiles that will envelope the world in a tsunami of radio-active debris. Nuclear war is insane.

Diplomacy must never be cast aside. It’s our only hope of survival in a world run by unstable leaders.

Humans are rational enough to not go to war. The world is weary of hate. We see the fatigue overcoming many nations. Non-violence is the law of our species as violence is that law of the brute. Let us pray for global peace in this turbulent and violent year. There is an alternative to war. There is no alternative to an honourable peace accord. Nuclear war is not suicide, it is omnicide: death to all of humanity.
