Two attackers killed in cash heist bid

- SAKHISENI NXUMALO |

TWO men have been killed during a shoot-out during a cash-in-transit heist attempt at Bridge City Mall in KwaMashu yesterday.

It is believed that seven suspects arrived at the busy shopping centre in a white Toyota Quantum and opened fire at SBV guards.

Two of the suspects who opened fire on the guards were killed during the shoot-out.

SBV confirmed that one of their employees had been injured during the attack and was recovering in hospital.

The group chief executive, Mark Barrett, said no cash had been taken during the attack.

Barrett said that SBV’s risk and compliance team were working closely with the police to investigate the attack.

He said the details were still unknown and could not be disclosed while the investigation was under way.

“I wish to commend our team for bravely defending this attack and wish our employee in hospital a speedy recovery.

“SBV does not tolerate any violence, crime, and threats to human lives,” Barrett said.
