When being a leader comes naturally
Responsible for 350% revenue growth for Dube iConnect since taking over the reins
BREAKING gender norms and excelling in a male-dominated environment is something Brynn Gerson has done since high school.
In the late 1980s, Gerson surprised her teachers when she insisted on joining the academic stream of advanced mathematics and computer studies, while her fellow female students were encouraged to excel at typing and pursue conventional careers.
Fuelled by her mother’s advice to “never accept a ‘no’ from someone who doesn’t have the authority to give a ‘yes’”, Gerson has emerged as a resilient and inspirational leader, whose professional journey through the ranks of computer technology and ICT infrastructure prepared her for her role as senior manager at Dube TradePort (DPT), where she heads up Dube iConnect – a position she has held since 2014.
Gerson’s career portfolio spans Admin Management, Technical Management, Account Management, Sales Management and Business Unit Management in several IT industry sectors.
Her solid financial and target-driven background, technical and sales skills, over 25 years IT relationships, experience in starting up, managing and growing sophisticated integrated IT solutions business units have provided critical experience for her leading role.
Dube iConnect is a world-class, state-of-the-art, voice and broadband ICT infrastructure and telecommunications facility. A fully licensed ICASA service provider, it is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier locally-hosted cloud service providers boasting two Tier-3 compliant Data Centres connected via fully reticulated fibre cabling and incorporating industry-leading blade architecture and storage.
In 2018/2019, Dube iConnect reported revenue exceeding R10 million, representing a 350% growth in revenue since Gerson took the reins. This is the result of her ongoing focus on reviewing processes to rationalise costs, while improving efficiencies and achieving economies of scale. She also credits this success to her dedicated team that works collectively to find solutions to challenges.
Gerson’s ability to produce results while making and saving money comes from her childhood, working alongside her mother at local flea markets, selling home-made clothing she had helped sew, to help make ends meet.
She is an active member of the KZN Women in Tech Forum and is also intrigued by a wide variety of interests beyond the world of IT.
