UKZN POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
THE University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Relations is an industry-appropriate and relevant course that provides labour practitioners with the knowledge and practical skills required to practise competently in this field. It equips professionals with an appreciation of the legal and ethical aspects of industrial relations as well as with labour dispute resolution skills.
The programme is offered by the UKZN School of Law on the Howard College Campus and is endorsed by the labour relations industry.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The programme consists of eight 16-credit single-semester modules (128 credits in total) at NQF level 8. It is offered full-time over one year, or part-time over two years.
The programme is taught by way of lectures, delivered in block sessions during working hours. Lecture attendance and participation in the opening full-day orientation session is compulsory. Thereafter, full-time students will attend four, four-day “blocks” of lectures each semester, while part-time students will attend two four-day “blocks” of lectures each semester. Students will also be required to submit assignments and undertake a considerable amount of self-directed study. Examinations will be held during working hours, in the university’s normal examination sessions.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the programme, the applicant should have a recognised undergraduate degree or an appropriate one-year Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7), together with relevant working experience. Places in the programme are limited and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Selection will be based principally on academic merit, taking account of the applicant’s performance in all previous qualifications.
