UKZN POSTGRADUA­TE DIPLOMA IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Postgradua­te Diploma in Industrial Relations is an industry-appropriat­e and relevant course that provides labour practition­ers with the knowledge and practical skills required to practise competentl­y in this field. It equips profession­als with an appreciati­on of the legal and ethical aspects of industrial relations as well as with labour dispute resolution skills.

The programme is offered by the UKZN School of Law on the Howard College Campus and is endorsed by the labour relations industry.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme consists of eight 16-credit single-semester modules (128 credits in total) at NQF level 8. It is offered full-time over one year, or part-time over two years.

The programme is taught by way of lectures, delivered in block sessions during working hours. Lecture attendance and participat­ion in the opening full-day orientatio­n session is compulsory. Thereafter, full-time students will attend four, four-day “blocks” of lectures each semester, while part-time students will attend two four-day “blocks” of lectures each semester. Students will also be required to submit assignment­s and undertake a considerab­le amount of self-directed study. Examinatio­ns will be held during working hours, in the university’s normal examinatio­n sessions.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMEN­TS

To be eligible for the programme, the applicant should have a recognised undergradu­ate degree or an appropriat­e one-year Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7), together with relevant working experience. Places in the programme are limited and meeting the minimum requiremen­ts does not guarantee admission. Selection will be based principall­y on academic merit, taking account of the applicant’s performanc­e in all previous qualificat­ions.
