Lives of pedestrians, motorists in danger

-

THE department of transport’s failure to attend to the traffic lights at the eShowe Siza garage is putting the lives of the people who use the road in great danger.

The 4-way stop has had dysfunctional traffic lights for over a month, and one of the traffic light poles is also broken. This is making life difficult for drivers and pedestrians.

Many families have lost their loved ones in fatal road accidents on this route.

Having received complaints from community members as the DA in uMlalazi, we visited the department of transport in eShowe to further find out about the problem and the plans they have to address this issue.

On arrival, we were informed that the area manager was not available, so we couldn’t get answers.

This shows the uncaring leadership of the ANC. They are supposed to be there for communities when needed but instead they are nowhere to be seen when the community is in despair.

We have written a letter to the municipal manager, Raymond Mnguni. It is an insult to the people of Eshowe to be denied the most basic of services.

We are also concerned about the P230 road towards Mevamhlophe, which is in a dire state, with one side badly eroded. It is a disaster in waiting. The two-way road has become an uncontrolled stop-and-go spot.

There has been more signage added to warn motorists about the dangers, which is an indication that the damage is not going to be fixed soon.
