Country shattered by the death of Mseleku

- COLIN BURGER | Assagay

THE IFP in KZN is shattered by the news of the untimely passing of the sporting encyclopedia, Sbusiso Mseleku, 59, (uGaz’lami), who passed away on Monday night in Midvaal Private Hospital in Vereeniging, after having tested positive for Covid-19.

Mseleku was not only a respected sports journalism guru, but a role model for budding journalists across the journalism beats. Having started his flourishing career at the Ilanga lase Natal newspaper, Mseleku proceeded to become a trove of information in the national sporting fraternity.

His sociable character earned him friends across the length and breadth of the country, especially in eMagabheni near uMkhomazi on the South Coast of Durban. Mseleku will be remembered for his passion for the development of sports in eMagabheni, where he would organise annual sporting tournaments, where young and local talent was tapped and nurtured. He also hosted Christmas events, where he showered his community with gifts.

It is sad that we continue to lose our heroes and heroines due to Covid19. On behalf of Honourable VF Hlabisa, President of the IFP and Leader of the Official Opposition, IFP President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and entire IFP family, we wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mseleku.

His extensive knowledge of South Africa’s football history and its dynamics was a fountain of wisdom for many football fans. He will be missed for his insightful and unbiased reporting.

Have roadblocks all round town. Choose random spots. Catch them. Stop them. Show them that you mean business. Show no mercy. Accept no bribes. Let them know that the law is the law.

Now is the time to make a new start. If the law states that no higher than 0.05% alcohol per 100ml blood is permitted, then make sure that no one drives with a higher percentage. Stop them, at all costs. Time to shine. I dare you.

Before you know it, people will start to respect the law. Will drink responsibly. Will not be prepared to take chances. And you will be able to hold your heads up high and say, “We did it”.

What a wonderful achievement that would be for this beautiful country of ours. And for the safety of all the citizens who live in it.

WENDY LOKER ILLING | Ballito district municipalities continued to struggle with basic financial and performance processes”.

This is a sure and definite indication of the wrong people being in charge of the financial affairs in their respective areas.

Why were these people employed in the first place without basic financial knowledge?

Theft, fraud and corruption have been rampant in our municipalities for years now with no action having been taken against them. Why not?

The ANC government is solely to blame for this problem which has now become a financial pandemic.

Again it points to cadre deployment of people who are clueless and ignorant being put in places of employment because of party loyalty without being able to perform their duties.

When will ANC supporters learn and realise they have voted an incompetent bunch of so-called “politicians” into positions that are causing them so much grief and are to blame for little or no service delivery?
