Harris show not good for US politics

- JOHN WHITLOCK | Germiston

TWO news items this past week caught my attention.

Ever since the news broke that Kamala Harris would be “slow” Joe Biden’s running mate in the upcoming US presidential election, everything has centred on Harris while Biden has retreated into the shadows.

Harris has had countless interviews, has appeared on numerous TV shows, has spelt out her policies and her agenda to all and sundry.

She has, in fact, become the superstar of the election, and has stolen the limelight from the actual presidential candidate, Joe Biden, who has become conspicuous by his absence.

This does not bode well for the future.

If Biden is elected president, who exactly will be running the country?

The second item is the millions, if not billions of dollars being donated by numerous big companies to the upliftment of the African American community – the Black Lives Matter campaign. I just wonder whether all these billions will ever reach their desired destination, and whether they will actually ever be forthcoming.

The same applies to all the wonderful promises being made. Will it take place once all the brouhaha has died down and everything is, hopefully, back to normal. I, for one, doubt it.

I believe that these firms are jumping on the bandwagon just to show how politically correct they are, and to gain some prestige and recognition.

Hopefully, the American citizens will be given a full account of the actual donations as well as the promises made in the media and on TV.
