Mabuza must explain his turning to Russia

- MUHAMMAD OMAR | Durban North

WHILE Deputy President David Mabuza seems to be missing in action, speculation is increasing as to whether his health condition is improving or deteriorating.

No doubt having switched sides at Nasrec, for which one owes him some sympathy, he probably increased his “frenemies” in the not-so-friendly Zuma camp.

There must be some resident in KwaNxamalala – which is actually nearer to Kranskop than Nkandla, as always stated – who must be blaming his ancestors for this mishap.

A bath in the hot springs not far off the “Nkandla” residence may give some relief in this cold weather.

Imagine being deputy president of a country that has pioneered many medical treatments and trains medical personnel, especially in trauma cases that are sought after around the world, and going to Russia for medical treatment.

Listening to the reasons, I was rather amused when Mabuza mentioned his “hospital records are in Russia”. The lockdown travel ban is not helping. Maybe jumping on a cargo plane via the Middle East will help.

There was once a comment denied by the current Russian Czar Vladimir Putin that Africa is nothing more than a graveyard for their leaders. Schooled in Europe, shopping overseas, holidays overseas, finances overseas, medical treatment overseas and all they come “back” to Africa for is a burial.

Mabuza owes the country and his supporters an explanation and maybe should step aside until he recovers.

We wish him a speedy recovery.
