IN TERMS of the newly gazetted domestic and international air travel regulations under level 1:

International travel, including international scheduled operations and charter flights carrying passengers, are allowed at King Shaka International Airport, OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport. While President Cyril Ramaphosa had identified five airports for international travel, Lanseria and International Kruger Mpumalanga International Airports were not included in the gazette. Airlines must adjust their flight times in line with the curfew, which under level 1 is between midnight and 4am. However, a traveller with a flight ticket would be permitted to proceed in the event that they are stopped by law enforcement during the curfew. Catering is permitted on an international flight provided that safety precautions are adhered to, to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The department said this included the provision of prepacked meals.

During domestic flights, operators are only allowed to provide bottled water and a passenger on a domestic flight is not allowed to eat on board the aircraft. Magazines are to be collected as passengers board a plane, they are not to be shared between passengers and must be disposed of if left behind.

LONDON: Queen Elizabeth’s fleet of planes will be sold off next year, as part of the budget cuts made by the Defence Ministry. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is under pressure to save money and sell off four BAE-146s.

The monarch and other working members of the royal family will have to borrow British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s RAF Voyager to travel. Johnson faced a backlash last summer, when he ordered a $1.2 million makeover of the plane.

The news prompted concern about how the Royal Family will travel. The Defence Ministry said that the decision will not hamper the royals’ ability to travel.
