Don’t let anxiety rob you of life’s joys

- ROD SMITH rodsmithfpnc@gmail.com

“I WOULD like to adopt a baby or a young child and my husband is very keen to do so as well. I am sometimes very nervous about it and worry about how things will turn out.”

Adopt or not, you are probably worried about how things will turn out. That’s the nature of worry. I worry too, sometimes.

The challenge is to not permit your worries to stop you from engaging in life’s joys, commitments, and adventures.

If you are worried about how things will turn out if you adopt, I understand. But, I am sure you are aware that there are no guarantees about how things will turn out no matter how children come into your life.

If your anxieties keep you from work or from mixing with others or from day-to-day functioning then I would suggest you get help.

Adding children to your life will indeed exacerbate your worries.

If your worries are “normal” and come and go but do not restrict you from your career and being involved in life then go ahead, engage, enter the process for adoption eligibility.

Everything comes with risk and included is the risk of finding and sharing and enjoying love in ways you may have never before known.
