Why did Mngoma get cold feet?

- THYAGARAJ MARKANDAN | Kloof

WHAT ails you, Norma? Why have you turned tail and fled from the Zondo Commission? Are you afraid of the burly chief justice? Or did your estranged husband, Malusi Gigaba, send you flowers, perfumes and chocolates?

The whole country was eagerly awaiting her testimony at the Zondo Commission to hear first-hand what jaw-dropping revelations she had about the secret liaisons of Gigaba with the Guptas. And then at the 11th hour, just as she was climbing the steps to the commission building, she took fright and fled.

In the eNCA interview last year Norma Mngoma seemed so eager to spill the beans on her husband.

Why then, everyone is wondering, has she suddenly changed her mind? She has given no valid or clear explanation for her withdrawal from the commission.

So we are left to assume that there is more to it than meets the eye.

The police and the people in the legal profession will vouch for me when I say that dealing with domestic issues are never plain sailing. They are fraught with problems.

For example, a woman who has been kicked and punched all her married life will be all hell and fury against her abusive husband until the day of her court appearance when, for some inexplicable reason, she suddenly withdraws from the case.

Ask anyone who had their fingers burnt meddling in a domestic issue between a husband and wife.
