Snaith holds the aces

The Justin Snaith-trained Crown Towers runs in the WSB 1900 at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

In spite of top weight, Belgarion is still well treated when he contests the Gr2 WSB 1900 at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, May 16, one of the important warm-up races for the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July to be run on Saturday, July 3. If anywhere near his best, Belgarion should prove difficult to beat. An interesting jockey booking is S’Manga Khumalo with stable rider Richard Fourie aboard stable companion Crown Towers.

It may be an indication of Justin Snaith’s jockey bookings for the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July.

She’s A Keeper

How good is the filly She’s A Keeper? Gareth van Zyl’s charge is way above average and has been cleverly placed as far as her MR goes.

She has a light weight and although under sufferance according to official ratings she could give Belgarion a hard race and also book her gate in the VDJ.

Her mettle will be tested.

The Duncan Howells-trained Trip To Africa is now looking for this trip as he won the Kings Cup in good fashion but will need a big showing if he is to make the VDJ line-up. Crown Towers is a strong front runner and Fourie should ensure a decent gallop. Crown Towers comes off two smart wins and if allowed to get away early they could all be chasing shadows. Supporting feature is the KRA East Coast Cup (Listed) over 2000m and a maximum field of fillies and mares will face the starter in a tough contest.

Scented Mistress found one better in She’s A Keeper in The Scarlet Lady but that was her first outing since February. The blinkers go on and she can go one better for Vaughan Marshall whose stable is in good form. Dean Kannemeyer saddles Silva Magic who has gone close in two starts over a mile and steps up to what may be a more suitable trip. Keep On Dancing has come well of late for Wendy Whitehead and was a good third last run after a run of three victories.

van Vuuren

She starts off the same MR, has a light weight and the trip will suit. Johan Janse van Vuuren sends down Lady Of Steel from the Highveld who took on Summer Pudding in the Empress Club Stakes last run, finishing third.

She has a fair weight here but should put in a bold effort. Rattle Mouse probably needed her last start and comes with some useful Cape form to back her claims.
