Put perpetrators of GBV behind bars

-

MANY are aghast at the news of allegations of men perpetrating violence against women to enforce severed relationships.

Social media pictures showing the aftermath of violent behaviour by some of the men, are alarming.

Death by murder at the hands of their lovers, boyfriends and husbands are becoming far too common.

The police and justice system seem to be failing some of the families who have lost loved ones through gender based violence (GBV). The scourge of GBV must be eradicated early, through education in schools. There must be a minimum jail time for all offenders.

A few months in jail will send a message to men that they cannot resort to violence to solve relationship problems. I hope the minister of justice will table proposals so that Parliament can act quickly to enact laws that will bite. Putting the offenders in jail must be the bottom line.
